MEMORYSCAPE VR

Client Australian War Memorial | Project Developer UNSW iCinema Centre

ADF Archive

This project is a unique undertaking for the Australian War Memorial as its wider goal is to rethink public commemoration in Australian culture through artistic and technological innovation of their databases.

It aims to turn the act of remembering into an active conversation between visitors and the Afghanistan collection in the War Memorial.

It is in effect an A.I. narrative design with data poetics project and employs cutting edge visualisations and display systems to bring these user led conversations to life.

This creative reassembly of the data with the help of various AI models, will allow users to organise and explore content of interest. Of note is the utilisation of the vast audio interviews with soldiers about their experience of deployment, all of which have been extensively tagged for narrative responses and navigation with visitors.

This project is ongoing and was started as part of the research component for the final year of my Masters Degree. My tasks have included:

  • Developing the key database narratives
  • Designing the AI tagging conventions
  • Concept development of VFX concepts
  • GUI development for user journeys.
